In a modern era where contemporary sports dominate, our project is on a mission to revive the rich tradition of timeless games. In partnership with organisations from Romania, France, the Czech Republic, and Hungary, we aim to empower youth by training facilitators in archery, turca, futnet, and pétanque. Through interactive workshops, presentations, and dissemination events, our goal is to engage at least 400 young people, increasing their awareness of the health benefits and cultural heritage of these traditional sports.
ARCHERY
Dating back to 5000 BC and originating in Hungary, this ancient sport demands precision and focus, enhancing balance and coordination while sculpting muscles through sustained tension.
PETANQUE
Originating from France, offers a gentler alternative, emphasizing precision and inclusivity over athleticism. Its adaptability makes it accessible to individuals of all abilities, fostering socializing and camaraderie.
FUTNET
Born in the Czech Republic, brings a dynamic twist, engaging players in fast-paced movements that burn calories and promote teamwork. Its emphasis on inclusivity fosters trust and strengthens social bonds among players.
TURCA
A traditional Romanian game, with simple rules that require only a stick, a bat, and a hole in the ground. It promotes skill and patience, all while enhancing negotiation abilities and team spirit.
What sets these traditional sports apart is their accessibility. Requiring minimal equipment and space, they can be enjoyed by people of all ages, indoors or outdoors. In a time where the pandemic has restricted access to sports facilities, these games offer a lifeline, promoting physical activity while nurturing social interaction and community cohesion.
With a shared goal of reigniting interest in traditional sports among young people across Hungary, Romania, the Czech Republic, and France, the partners are poised to make a difference. Through their collective efforts, they aim to provide a pathway to health and social inclusion, ensuring that the legacy of these timeless games lives on for generations to come.
The first transnational project gathering brought team members from several countries together for face-to-face interaction, marking the official start of the project. During the meeting, we established clear working procedures, set up a plan for tracking our progress, and developed a communication strategy to share our project story. We also discussed risk management, planned school tours, began recruiting volunteers, and outlined training sessions on traditional sports games, all while uniting our team around the goal of celebrating and reviving our cultural heritage.
Each partner from Hungary, Romania, France, and the Czech Republic organised visits in schools to promote the project to young people while highlighting the health benefits of the four traditional sports—archery, turca, futnet, and pétanque. During these visits, the team introduced the international Volunteering Team and outlined the opportunity for potential volunteers to receive training and support in organizing workshops on these sports. The volunteer profile was clearly explained to the pupils, emphasizing that interest, motivation, and availability to participate in subsequent project phases were the most important criteria.
