Social inclusion and cultural diversity

Telkibánya, Hungary

Objectives

Our main goal with this project was to tackle the deficiency in cultural and social comprehension among young people, a need encountered in the communities of the partner organisations involved in this initiative. The lack  of awareness and appreciation for the unique differences among individuals, coupled with an increase in prejudicial attitudes towards those from diverse cultural backgrounds or those experiencing challenging circumstances, results in various forms of social exclusion. This, in turn, hinders the ability one has to actively engage in public life. Youths are more vulnerable because it produces deep and long-term damages to their living conditions as they emphasized and the sooner the issue is addressed the better are the chances to counteract the negative effects. In addition to this, youths who do not face fewer opportunities manifest either compassionate or discriminating behavior to the ones that face such obstacles which creates a barrier between the two categories.

The specific needs that young participants want to address with this project are the following: engage in discussions regarding challenges faced by different social categories; explore different cultures; build self-esteem; increase adaptability in unfamiliar contexts; improve communication; interact in intercultural context; practice their English; create friendships that cross the barriers of the country; learn more about Erasmus+ programme and its opportunities.

➊ Facilitated an international non-formal context in which young people are empowered to share and exchange opinions and ideas on the topics of social inclusion and cultural diversity.

➋ Raised awareness among youths from the partner country on the importance of diversity, tolerance, equal rights to young people and of the issues people that are socially excluded are facing.

➌ Increased the capacities of the five partners to promote non-formal educational activities to develop intercultural understanding and social inclusion among youth.

Activities

First phase

Days 1-3

The group was introduced into a series of non-formal activities aimed at boosting the team spirit and getting to know each other, designed by specialised facilitators using interactive workshops. Participants got to discover more about the Erasmus+ programme and the Youthpass Certification. :)

Second phase

Days 4-8

During the second phase, activities were focused on the topic. Using interactive non-formal learning methods participants found out more about social inclusion, cultural diversity, and learned about tolerance, and equal rights. They talked in English,  improving their communication while having fun.  :)

Third phase

Days 9-10

The last days of our project were dedicated to our communities. Together we designed a dissemination plan and worked on the promotional video and website of our project to share back with the community the results. We also presented to the interested target group the result of our work. :)
