The Story Within a Photo


Day 1:

We started with introducing the project and its topic. We established main principles for the mobility duration: energizers at beginning of each session, creating intercultural teams, secret friend activity and its team, plan for evenings, we also established rules via social contract. We played various getting to know each other activites such as name games (crossing letters on paper tape, balls throwing, ...) or speed dating. Last session was about discovering the importance of the Youthpass certificate through team work, what are key competences and how to get them. We made welcome party in evening.

 Day 2:

1st session there was creative recap and energizer, then in 4 groups, in different locations they listed their expectations from the project (15 min), fears (15 min), personal contributions (15 min), learning outcomes (15 min). Then they presented it to the group with following discussion.

2nd session we did parachute name game (name guessing through parachute), FB profile (15 minutes to draw each others profile -they listed basic info, hobbies, draw a picture, self profile, etc. and posted them on a wall.), human bingo.

At 3rd session participants continued to get to know each other better and done various teambuilding activities (one of them called mission impossible).

4th session contained debriefing of previous mission impossible and working on reflection envelopes.

 Day 3:

At Session 1 we presented and practiced various aspects of photography and techniques to make them. Participants learned about story telling and photo voice methods.

 

At session 2 was Erasmus+ session, where we worked in multinational teams, made presentations about different aspects of the Erasmus+ program dedicated to young people, followed by a structured roud-table discussion, where participants asked themselves questions about Erasmus+ and tried to answer them.

 

At 3rd session we did Miming photos = created connections between a picture and the way it can be transmitted to the others without words, find a common language, understand body language. Participants to pick one of printed pictures, mime the chosen picture in front of group, trying to emulate the position and activity of the characters. After, the subject of the photo was guessed, the facilitator show the photo of the other participants, who compared the fidelity of the person to the photo.

Then we did Photo stories = Presentation and discussions in pairs, to become aware of how they use images in their personal lives, what the photographs taken by them tells a story about them. Participants walked around and when the music stops they talk with the first person they have in front of their eyes about a picture they have in their phone and the story behind it. This was repeated several times, so participants had the chance to find a few stories one about another.

 

At session 4 we did short intro into photo ethics - understand ethical guidelines of photography, respect others privacy, what, where, whom to film or taking pictures (short discussion in a circle). Then we did the reflection buddy time.

 Day 4:

At first session CZ prepared energizers and teambuilding game.

2nd session was about teambuilding through flying kites in the air.

3rd and 4th session was about Challenging Stereotypes: participants worked in teams to document a stereotype they notice to a different group. They made a set of 5 pictures to back up their research. After they presented their work to the group and discuss in a round table setting.

 Day 5:

At first session RO team prepared energizers and teambuilding game.

Session 2 and 3 was about practicing storytelling and photography. Participants had to take pictures of each other focusing on the cultural differences and similarities and to write a few words about the picture. Then we presented them and discussed.

At last session we did midterm evaluation measuring how participants feel about different aspects of mobility and based on this we made small adjustments.

 Day 6:

We went to study visit in Bekecsaba. Participants received tasks to do for practicing what they have already learned. In intercultural teams they practiced intercultural team work, storytelling and photography. They also interacted with local people.

 Day 7:

At first session PT team prepared energizers and teambuilding game. Then participants presented their photo task presentation from study visit, received feedback from others.

Then there was presentation about SHOWeD technique and then participants worked in the groups and each group had the the task to select five to seven favourite photographs. The dialogue around the photographs was guided by this photovoice technique, “SHOWeD.”

Participants contextualized the photos taken by telling stories about what the photographs mean to them. They told their stories through dialogue with the rest of the group members and through journaling.

 Day 8:

At first session HU team prepared energizers and teambuilding game.

After that we practiced photography and did Mapping the surroundings activities. In teams of 4 participants had to explore the town, the accommodation, one of the national groups and take pictures of. After they created a storyline and presented it to the others.

 Day 9:

Few participants experienced with photoshop showed others basics of the photo editing software and then in multicultural teams they learned together how to work with the basics of photo editing.

Then we continued photoshop editing practice and made photoshop challenge where in teams participants tried to do the best result with what they learned before, in selected topics. Then they presented to everyobdy and made discussion how they did it.

 

After this participants arranged the photo exhibition for the public in the city center of Mezobereny. Each team had its own space and arranged it in accordance with their message. Participants presented to the entire groups and to the local community their photovoice projects.

They had the chance to answer to community's questions and talk with them about the idea of their projects, how they found the issue and documented it.

 

In the end of the day, in their teams, participants discussed about the exibition, what could have been improved and why. Identifying strong and weak points of the event. After each team shared it to the entire group and discussed it together.

 Day 10:

First we altogether created a website of the project. We created different categories of information to insert and prepared media to be inserted. Then we worked in teams to put it all on the website, in the Google Sites platform. Then we discussed and planned the dissemination plan for the follow up phase (including previously created website to be promoted). Then we did final evaluation, measuring aspects of the project, what they liked and what to be improved next time. We finished secret friend activity with interactive revealing who is secret friend of each participant. We did interactive activity with participants giving youthpasses to each other and also writing messages and comments on each other’s papers.
