Izvoare, Romania
Légáramlat took part as the official Hungarian partner organisation in the Erasmus+ Youth Exchange Viral Rights, which brought together 30 young people aged 16–20 from Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Serbia, and the Republic of Moldova. Held in Izvoare, Romania, this seven-day Youth Exchange focused on helping participants become informed, responsible, and active digital citizens.
At a time when misinformation, online hate, and digital manipulation are becoming increasingly common, Viral Rights offered a safe and supportive environment for young people to learn, reflect, and develop their skills. Through workshops, debates, theatre activities, simulations, and campaign creation, participants strengthened their critical thinking, public speaking, digital awareness, and leadership abilities, while exploring how to use media responsibly and uphold democratic values.
Objectives of the Youth Exchange
Support active digital citizenship by helping young people understand their digital rights and responsibilities.
Develop media literacy and critical thinking to recognize fake news, propaganda, and hate speech.
Encourage civic participation and European values, such as human rights, democracy, and equality.
Improve leadership and communication skills through teamwork, public speaking, and intercultural learning.
Promote creativity and advocacy by guiding participants in designing digital campaigns focused on inclusion, diversity, and social responsibility.
Activities and Learning Throughout the Week
The Youth Exchange began with icebreakers and team-building sessions—including Guess My Name, Two Truths and a Lie, and The Communication Tree—which helped the international group connect and create a positive working atmosphere. Together, the participants developed a Code of Conduct to ensure respect and inclusion throughout the week.
Workshops on Youthpass, Erasmus+ opportunities, and human rights helped participants connect their experiences to the eight key competences. In the session Our Voice, Our Europe, they discussed freedom of speech, digital inclusion, and the impact of fake news, developing shared ideas for a fair and safe digital environment.
Creative expression played a key role in The Power Play theatre workshop, where participants acted out scenarios related to cyberbullying, propaganda, and online hate. This activity supported empathy, reflection, and confident communication.
Midweek sessions focused on media influence and digital wellbeing. In Spotting Persuasion and Digital Safety & Healthy Choices, participants learned to identify manipulation techniques and reflect on healthy online habits. The Youth Parliament simulation offered practical experience in democratic processes, allowing participants to debate issues, create proposals, and vote on resolutions.
Further activities such as Rule of Law in Action explored justice, accountability, and democratic principles. In Principles of Media Literacy – Leading in a Digital World, participants gained tools to evaluate online content and understand the role of leadership in the digital space.
A major highlight was the group project Digital Voices: Media Literacy in Action, where participants designed awareness campaigns addressing digital safety, inclusion, and truthful communication. Using posters, videos, and interactive presentations, they demonstrated creativity, teamwork, and a strong commitment to responsible media use.
Closing the Youth Exchange
The final day was dedicated to evaluation, reflection, and sharing. Participants completed their Youthpass Certificates, discussed their learning outcomes during the Reflection Time and Final Evaluation, and celebrated their week together with the Secret Friend Reveal and a farewell evening.
By the end of Viral Rights, participants had strengthened their media literacy, communication, and leadership skills. They returned home with a clearer understanding of human rights, digital ethics, and civic participation, and with the motivation to promote inclusion, responsibility, and truth within their communities.
